Springers: ... Parabolic or "curved stringers". Little was really known or proven about
Springers until recently. What usually happens in surfing is that something new comes along and surfers naturally want to jump on it and try it. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Some cool things about Springers:
• Less nose breakage (double stringer in nose)
• Lighter (stringers are on thinner part of board)
• Stronger (stringer strength is out on rails)
• Snap (instead of having just foam in the tail the stringer gives some torque)
votes are still out on this.
So far I have only worked with EPS (epoxy) foam for Springers because you can custom design each blank and have the Springers fit the design the surfer has ordered, especially with swallow tails.
There are now some pretty hot looking polyester blanks with parabolic stringers but you are stuck in the old school world of using someone else's idea of what the rocker should be and the stringers will not always fit the shape the surfer has ordered.
I like getting my custom rocker cut so everything looks
"purty" and it fits the design.

This is Burny Burnstin he picked up his board (The bullet) and Benny's 6'6 Manfish Springer. Here he is holding Phil Harris' four fin.
Here is Burney's Bullet. He gets his boards with all four ounce glass on EPS/epoxy. he is actually holding this 5'5" down so it won't float away.
Here is Burny holding Ben Demonstrati's 6'6" Manfish. Springers work in man sized boards as well.
