Well, Spirit came on good at first - and some good prices can still be had. Baggage fees have been reasonable but we have found many passengers experience zero customer service. We only ticket Spirit by special request because of the many, many problems passengers have called to describe and ask what they could do/write/anything. Take a look at the boards that come into Ft. Lauderdale from all their destinations and then figure how they will get on the flight to San Jose...some flights may work...but others ...they just won't fit. Oversized, often overweight luggage has not been a serious priority. Then there was the time Spirit headed to San Jose but forgot to file their manifest...they had to turn around and come back and then fly back again putting a long line of people in front of the counter trying to get their tickets sorted out. OK --- then there was the client who left San Jose late and got to Ft Lauderdale after the Orlando flight had departed. When he asked the airline what protection they offered to get him to his final destination they told him that he could take a bus or rent a car. Or, the bodyboard event they sponsored but we were told they left the bodyboards behind. Baggage is a problem - surfboards are big --- no getting away from that! Some airlines have equipment that handle them better than others, others just have a better policy with boards or oversized baggage. Baggage and weight policies are changing weekly - price of fuel is creating higher operating expense and weight = more fuel. Spirit has accommodated a lot of surfers and many without incident- however, we do feel it is our job to seek the most hassle free carriers and vendors out there for your valuable time and dollars!

Someone said something about Spirit airlines.. real (cheap?) in the hundreds? Could that be true. Do they leave you out in the jungle and try to tell you to find your own way?

Lots of changes this year...most of them with surfboard fees. You know when American Airlines cuts back on the weight of forks and spoons --- surfboards are a main issue. Embargos - limits on number of boards and weight/length...that's the biggie. The cheap airfare you find on line may not be on a carrier that is board friendly.

Costa still a good deal- the boat in Panama is awsome - and a new package coming alive for Ecuador. Stay tuned for that great new program!
